Installer Ubuntu på gammel Acer Aspire pc

Jeg har en gammel Acer Aspire E14 pc, hvor Windows 10 ikke fungerede længere. Jeg har derfor formateret harddisken og kunne nu tænke mig at installere Ubuntu på den i stedet. Jeg har med UNetBootin installeret Ubuntu live USB på en USB nøgle og booter op i den. Her får jeg valgmulighederne "Try Ubuntu without installing", "Install Ubuntu", OEM install" og "Check disc for defect". Uanset hvilken jeg vælger får jeg følgende fejl:

error: /casper/vmlinuz has invalid signature

Jeg har prøvet at disable Security boot og får så i stedet fejlmeddelelsen:

error: invalid magic number

Nogle ideer til hvordan jeg skal komme videre så jeg kan få installeret Ubuntu?

Check din iso

Mit første bud er, at checke den downloadede iso. Er checksum korrekt? Er signaturer korrekte?
Hvis ikke, download igen og prøv igen. Evt. fra et andet sted.
En korrekt iso er forudsætningen for en korrekt installation.

Dette er et generelt råd. Jeg har ikke meget kendskab til Ubuntu, men det gælder for alle installationer: Iso'en skal i det mindste have korrekt checksum, og går du op i sikkerhed *), skal du også checke signaturer.

*) Og det bør du gøre, hvis ikke du er ligeglad med hvem, der snager på din computer.

Ubuntu's Desktop Environment (Gnome) minder lidt om Mac. Hvis du ønsker et Ubuntu baseret operativ system, der minder lidt om Windows 7, så vil du muligvis istedet overveje Mint 19.2 med Cinnamon Desktop Environment.

Nu kan jeg tilgå Ubuntu på USB nøglen, men ikke installere

Jeg har nu fået USB nøglen til at virke, så jeg kan åbne Ubuntu via nøglen. Men når jeg installerer kan jeg ikke se den harddisk, hvor Windows tidligere var installeret. Den harddisk jeg tidligere via Windows commando prompt har formateret (formentlig med NTFS eller FAT32). Jeg kan i installationsprogrammet kun se USB nøglen, ikke harddisken. Ej heller i programmet Disks eller GParted.

Nogle gode ideer?

#2: Jeg har allerede Linux Mint installeret på en anden computer. Linux Mint og Ubuntu er for mig lige gode. Jeg tror jeg primært vil forsøge med Ubuntu på denne computer.

Jeg har prøvet at wipe

Jeg har prøvet at wipe den disk der hedder /dev/sdb. Jeg kan nemlig i programmet Disk se en harddisk, men den fremgår som Readonly og jeg kan ikke se nogle partitioner. Wipe er succesfuldt, men synes ikke rigtig det har ændret noget.

Ja, set i bakspejlet, var det nok ikke så klogt :-) Men selvom man formaterer en harddisk, må den vel kunne reddes alligevel?

Jo, men din harddisk burde genkendes som /dev/sda. Jeg bemærker sda vises som et flash drev.

Hvor stor mener du harddisken er? (hvor mange GB)

Der er den mulighed at harddisken er beskadiget og at det er forklaringen på at Windows ikke kunne wipe den. Det kunne også forklare hvorfor Windows 10 ikke længere fungerer.

Hvis det ikke hjælper at wipe sda, så kan du prøve at afmontere harddisken og sætte den ind i en anden maskine som slave og fra den forsøge at slette alle partitioner på disken før reformatering. Hvis det heller ikke hjælper, så vil jeg tro disken er gået i stykker.

Nu kontakt til harddisk - men ved at stå af?

Jeg har nu fået kontakt til harddisken. Det viste sig at hvis jeg starter installationen direkte fra USB nøglen "try Ubuntu", så kan jeg ikke se den. Men hvis jeg i bootmenuen vælger "Install ubuntu" så kunne den ses. Desværre fejler den under installationen, så den ikke kan gennemføres.

Det er en Toshiba. Når jeg skriver sudo fdisk /dev/sdb får jeg følgende:

Det korrekte navn var /dev/sdb og størrelsen er 1 TB. /dev/sda er USB nøglen hvor Ubuntu kører fra.

Måske du har ret i at disken er i stykker :-(

Så er det vel bare at installere ubuntu, og vælg "brug hele disken", under installationen.
Jeg går ud fra at ubuntu har nogle fornuftige, standart partions indstillinger.

Mht. det med at anvende hele disken så kan jeg sagtens vælge det, men den fejler under oprettelsen af partitionerne. Også selvom der så efterfølgende fremgår oprettede partitioner. Men installationen fortsætter ikke.

Hvad så Andreas, fik du hul

Hvad så Andreas, fik du hul igennem til harddisken? Er den iøvrigt roterende eller en SSD? Har du prøvet at resette BIOS til fabriksindstillingerne?

Det er en TeraByte disk på en gammel maskine, så jeg antager lidt den er roterende. Har du tjekket disken for bad blocks?

Jeg har endnu ikke prøvet at formatere disken via terminalen, men det vil jeg prøve. Jeg kunne dog erase hele disken. Men hvis jeg forsøger at formatere med ext4, afbrydes den i programmet Disk pga. en fejl.

Jeg forsøger lige at gennemføre en badblock scan, jf. #17, og bagefter kan jeg prøve at se om jeg kan opbygge partitioner via terminalen.

Men hvis man skal installere Ubuntu er det jo en del af installationen at der skal gennemføres en formatering via installationsprogrammet ikke? Det kan man vel ikke springe over? Eller kan man vælge hvilke partitioner den skal vælge?

Desværre ikke :-( Det er en HDD.

Det lykkedes mig at kommunikere delvist til harddisken. Blandt andet kunne jeg erase hele harddisken via Disk, hvilket dog tog ca. 10 timer for 1 TB. Men formatering i ext4 kan ikke gennemføres. Jeg tænker den må være defekt.

Indtil videre booter jeg derfor hver gang op i en live Ubuntu USB og arbejder med den. Skal dog have lavet en USB nøgle hvor jeg også kan gemme indstillinger, så jeg ikke skal skifte sprog hver gang. Og så må jeg jo få en ny computer engang, hvor jeg kan installere Linux fra starten af.

Okay. Hvis der er bad blocks, så er det under alle omstændigheder nødvendigt at skifte disken. Det er tegn på den er ved at gå helt i stykker.

Lækkert man kan redde gammelt hardware

Det er altid cool at se, at man kan redde gammel hardware med Linux. Nok den mest hyppige anvendelse af Linux. Og hurra for det - held og lykke med skift af harddisk.

Nu lidt mere generelt. Det sker tit at folk glemmer Linux igen, når de får nyt hardware. Det nye hardware er købt med en testet version af Mac/Wndows og virker jo umiddelbart vildt hurtig. Og så er bruger tilbage i købeOS, for hvad slår 'gennemtestet fra start' og 'virker bare'?
... Måske 'stadig meget mere sikker end købeOS' og 'alt kan fixes hvis du har tid' og 'de bedste pc-fællesskaber er baseret på opensource'?

Så kan man som erfaren Linux bruger lige tilføje, at: "Linux på nyt hardware er den fedeste oplevelse man kan få, hvis man vil afprøve LInux". F.eks. skal man ikke som i dette indlæg først gennem slidsomt debug af gamle, slidte harddiske, før man ser fordelene ved Linux.

Så til dig, Linux-entusiast: Næste gang du (eller dine nærmest) får nyt hardware så vær lige hurtig og tag en clonezilla backup af maskinen inden man begynder at bruge den og installer så dualboot (efter grundig test med en livedistro, selvfølgelig). Så kan brugeren tage stilling til hvad der passer bedst fra dag til dag. Og skulle det utrolige ske, at man fortryder dualboot, kan man hente clonezilla backup igen og genskabe den som ny.

Iøvrigt - har i hørt om 'Pepsitesten' for Linux? Tilbyd din gode ven/kollega/mor at installere Linux i RAM på den splinternye (eller her: harddiskløse) PC. Hent en live distro og kør den ind i RAM ved at skrive toram i enden - Se https://ubuntudanmark.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&... . Har brugt den på masser af maskiner i forretninger, ellers køber jeg da ikke noget.... NB: 8GB ram er minimum, hvis man skal gå et par uger med Linux i ram-only og prøve installere forksellige ting.

Tak for tippet. Og der er ingen tvivl om at ved næste nye computer skal Linux ind med det samme.

Ellers lige en generel opdatering herfra. Det er nu lykkedes mig at få fikset den gamle computer. Jeg havde en anden gammel computer hvor touchskærmen var defekt og som jeg havde reddet engang med Linux ved at disable drivere til touchskærmen, men det fungerede ikke perfekt, fordi driveren genaktiverede engang imellem, fx. ved at man rører skærmen eller booter op fra standby. Til gengæld havde denne pc en god harddisk.

Jeg har derfor flyttet harddisken fra pc'en med den ødelagte skærm til pc'en med den ødelagte harddisk. Efterfølgende har jeg fjernet rester af Windows på den harddisk og så installeret Ubuntu helt fra bunden. Og det virker fint.

Ja, indtil videre har jeg bare installeret standard Ubuntu, og den fungerer rigtig hurtigt. Meget hurtigere end Windows i pc'en gode dage. Men jeg overvejer at installere nogle af de andre desktops sideløbende, så jeg måske kan skifte og afprøve dem.
